Residence Halls
Upon enrollment at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind at Staunton, your child will be assigned placement in a dormitory appropriate for his/her age, grade placement, and gender. Dormitories in both the Deaf and Blind Departments are separate facilities from the classroom buildings, and are designed to provide both comfort and an environment conducive to learning and social skills development.
Qualified and experienced residential dorm supervisors are on duty to supervise and coordinate activities. A fully staffed Student Life Office is in operation for both departments when children are present, and a Student Life Director oversees programs for Deaf Department and Blind Department students.
We have three dormitories in the Deaf Department: A girls' dormitory, an elementary boys' dormitory, and a High School boys' dormitory. One large dormitory in the blind department houses the girls on one floor and the boys on another.

Each dormitory floor is supervised by two to four staff members during the evening and one staff member who works all night. Our teacher aides come on duty in the dorms in the morning to assist students with their morning routine. We are fortunate to have a large number of former graduates on our staff. All of our staff members are very dedicated to the students and are highly involved in their day to day life here on campus.
